Act 101 Program Newsletter Internship

During the Spring of 2009, the Act 101 Program at Kutztown University successfully launched a monthly electronic newsletter.

The newsletter updates current students and university administrators about what is happening within the program.

This project was done by a student who was completing requirements for a 3 credit internship. We would like to see it continue.

Please let faculty members in your Professional Writing and English departments know about this opportunity.

I am happy to answer any questions about this and would very much appreciate any referrals you may be able to send us.

Thank you,

Proofreading/editing scams

Dr. Downing and Dr. Bleach,

Dr. Reed recommended that I forward this information to you for the PW blog/website.

I was doing some research for my class and I came across this:
http://www.writersweekly.com/this_weeks_article/002402_02092005.html

It's a blog article about proofreading/editing scams.

Prospective employers want their applicants to take a "test," which usually involves editing a full article or book chapter.

Then they'll dump the applicant, saying his/her skills are not up to snuff. But they still retain the product of the writer's labors.

According to the author of the blog, the scammers will send out different chapters to different applicants, and they can get entire books edited for free like this.

If I can find company names for the scammers, I'll send those along as well. Thanks for your time.
